I have to admit that it’s brand loyalty that kept me to Blackberry over the years in spite of all the hoopla about IPhone. We have all been rooting for this Canadian technology brand and I’m sure a lot of people feel the same sadness that I do over its creator company’s seemingly inevitable demise (choking on the term demise). I’m still in denial stage at this point and hoping that some stroke of luck could resurrect it in its former glory that it was as recently as 2008.
Without losing sight of the career lesson in this BB saga, I feel sorry for the 5000 people losing their jobs. Who would imagine a few years ago that this could happen? I know at least one person who moved to Kitchener from another province in the western part of Canada just to be able to position herself for employment at RIM. She thought that it would be easier to be hired if she had lived around the area; so she moved after college and, true enough, landed a job at RIM. I’m hoping that she has a Career Plan B, just in case. I hope you do, too.
